We know that these lessons are an investment, and we want to make sure we are honoring that AND keeping our community safe and healthy!
Reporting an absence:
If your kiddo is sick, or has been exposed to a highly communicable disease, PLEASE keep your kiddo home! We will honor makeup credits in this situation as late as the day of as a thank you for not sharing the germs! Just fill out the absence form so the system keeps track of your makeup credit, and we'll see you when you're all feeling better! We appreciate the calls, emails and texts to let us know, but the only way your credit will be recorded is by filling out the absence form! *Please note: makeup credits expire 1 year from date of absence
If you know in advance that you're going to miss class for a vacation, doctor's appointment, camp, etc. we do ask for you to fill the absence form at least seven (7) days in advance to receive a makeup credit. This is because the jump-in list goes out once per week, and this amount of advance notice allows us to offer your spot to the rest of the community as a make-up opening! We appreciate the calls, emails and texts to let us know that you'll be gone, but the only way your credit will be recorded is by filling out the absence form! *Please note: makeup credits expire 1 year from date of absence
How to use your Make-up Credits:
Make-up classes can be scheduled based on availability with our Jump-In list! A weekly email goes out on Wednesdays to all current students and past students with makeup credits with current availability for the next week. You can request a make-up class by replying to that email or emailing [email protected] with your desired day/time. If that time has not already been selected, and is a skills and sensory match, we will email you back to confirm the spot is yours! Due to the volume of students we see, we are unable to individually coordinate make-up lessons outside of this process. Selecting a time from the Jump-In list is the ONLY way to use make-up credits.
To ensure that students are able to stay as long as they need to, our lessons are ongoing and year-round. Once you have a spot, it's all yours until you're ready to graduate! Once we've got you scheduled, you'll pay a pro-rated invoice for your first month. When that invoice is paid, an automated subscription is generated that will pull your regular subscription fee on the 25th of each month for the upcoming month.
When you are ready to take a break, just let us know by the 15th of the current month so we can cancel your subscription for the upcoming month. Your spot will be immediately offered to the waitlist. If you decide to come back, simply email us to find out what spots are currently available or to be re-added to the waitlist!
Please note: Because we expect students to swim with us on average for 6-12 months, the subscription price evens out the cost of 44 lessons per year over 12 payments. This means that some months can have as few as 3 lessons, where others may have 5. We do not provide refunds for holidays, as they have been built into the cost of the subscription. This allows for easier accounting for both the company, and your personal budget!

Our official policy is that refunds will be given solely at Zen Penguin Swim School’s discretion. That said, sometimes life gets in the way, or there’s a personality mis-match, or kiddos just aren’t quite ready to learn this life skill. If you sign up and your kid straight up refuses to swim, or life happens and suddenly you can’t make that time anymore, you can get a pro-rated refund for the unused portion of your lessons before the 2nd lesson. If you have any concerns, please contact us so we can make sure you and your kiddo are taken care of!
For any general questions, or any emergency that may cause a late class call out, please contact us at [email protected]
Ready to take a break? Fill out the cancellation form to formally release your spot. Remember, all cancellation forms must be received by the 15th of the month to cancel your subscription for the following month. If you have more than one student enrolled, please submit one form per student.
Due to high demand and limited spots available, please note that there is no guarantee that if and when you are ready to return to swim, your original spot will be available. There may also be a waiting period, before we can find you a new spot that works for you, but please know we will do our best to accommodate you once you are ready to return!
ABSOLUTELY YES! Everyone at Zen Penguin is an ADHD and/or autistic adult, with several of us parenting our own neurodivergent kid(s). Penny, our founder, is not just someone who knows how to swim; she's also done years of research on co-regulation, the nervous system, and how to help your kids move through their sensory experiences to reach their goals, so that our whole team can help your child learn to swim in the way that feels best for THEM. We keep groups small on purpose to provide an intimate, relaxed vibe for the class. Kids are never forced to perform skills they aren't ready for (including putting their face in). Our philosophy is, children who are afraid of the water have accurately assessed the danger of the situation, and we will never gaslight them about that. Instead, we focus on an information heavy path through those fears, acknowledging what's scary, and empowering them with the knowledge of how their body works in the water, so they can learn to safely enjoy the water in a calm and regulated way.
Every kid's journey with the water looks different, and goes along a different timeline. Some kids pick it up right away, and some kids take a long time before finally feeling confident. typically parents can expect somewhat of an exponential curve when it comes to our lessons - it will look like we aren't doing much in the beginning, because we are laying the foundation of trust. Then, every kid reaches a point where "WHOA, they're SWIMMING!"
All lessons are 30 minutes long and take place at the same day and time each week, except for the pre-planned holidays.
Below, there is a button that will take you to an interest form. Tell us about your kid(s), and what days/times work the best for your family (the more flexible you are, the more likely you'll be able to get in). Classes are created based on personality, temperament, and sensory needs, so while you. may not get the first time you request, your child will end up in a class that is ideal for their specific needs.
